Living in a remote area of Northeastern Arizona, dog clubs and shows are few and far between. The Internet has provided an opportunity to "visit" open and specialty shows - at least visit the results - and get to know some of the wonderful people attending the shows and working to maintain integrity of the Pomeranian breed.

about grare toys

Grare Toys is a small, home-based breeder of AKC registered Pomeranians. We breed only a small number of litters, typically one or two, in a year and always strive to maintain AKC breed standards for healthy, happy pets.

Pomeranians are members of the AKC Toy Group and first recognized by the AKC in 1888. One hundred years later, in 1988, a coppery-red Pomeranian named Striker came into our lives. Striker was given to us by a dear friend, JoJo, and he quickly won our hearts and reigned in our home.

about the name ...

Granny RedGrare is an acronym for Granny Red, a nickname given to my mother (1936-2000) after her first few grandchildren came along.

Somewhat akin to studying pedigree charts, I've spent countless hours studying and reviewing ancestral charts compiled during my research into genealogical lines for mine and my husband's families. Part of my research has gone back to pre-Revolutionary War dates.

While trying to decide upon a name for registering and identifying (future) puppies originating from my Pomeranians, thoughts of my Mom and how delighted she would have been with one or twenty of these little furballs dancing at her feet kept creeping into my mind. (She really would have loved them, even though she was a Chihuahua kind of gal.)

The word "toy" is used in our name because of an interest in other toy-group dogs that may become part of our lives in the future.
